Skin Care

Beautiful . . . healthy . . . glowing skin. Every individual, whether beauty-conscious or not wants it. But lasting skin beauty can only result from faithful, regular care. While we have marvelous skin care products to make life easier, it is the way you treat your skin everyday that really counts as the years go by. Today you will learn about the intricate workings of your skin, to help you care for it best and to prevent it from premature aging.

Skin Mechanics

Your skin is a living breathing marvel, a platform of sensations, pleasant or otherwise. A shield for your body from outside influences of bacteria, virus, or fungus, not to mention the harmful ultraviolet rays of the sun.

For truly effective skin care, we must ensure healthy functioning of the three layers that skin is made up of: the outer skin (the epidermis), the underlying, living tissue (the dermis), and finally the sub skin (a fatty layer of subcutaneous tissue).

How To Improve The Skin Quality (Internally)

It is amazing what a remarkable difference good nutrition can make. Your skin needs vitamins, minerals, proteins, essential fatty acids, trace elements, and unrefined carbohydrates to keep it young and beautiful.

If you observe carefully, you'll find that people with beautiful skins eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, while the others almost invariably have a diet of refined goods: white flour, sugar, and other industrially prepared goodies.

Make a habit of drinking plenty of water, at least six to eight glasses a day. It flushes out the system, detoxifying the skin, helping in removal of wastes which can cause cellulite. Water is an essential nutrient for your skin so try to make sure you don't forget. Proper elimination is also vital for healthy skin. Try to eat a diet high in natural fibber raw vegetables and whole grains. (Have you ever noticed what those beautiful models eat plenty of Salads of course!)

Special Ingredients for Beauty

Some vitamins are particularly vital for great looking, healthy skin.
Less of Vitamin A in your diet can be the cause of dry scaly, and crinkled skin.
Redness, tenderness or ulceration's around the corners of the mouth are normally due to lack of one or more of the B complex Vitamins.
Inadequate Vitamin C, damages the collagen fibers in the dermis.

Vitamin E, used in so many skin care products, is vital to skin health and beauty, because of its anti-oxidant properties which delays the skin's natural aging process. Taken in its supplementary form, vitamin E often improves dry, rough, lined, or tired looking skin.

How To Improve The Skin Quality (Externally)

Regardless of your age or the type of skin you have, there are three basic steps to a good external skin care routine.

Regular, thorough cleansing
Moisturizing
Protection from the ultraviolet rays of the sun

Cleansing Routine

Regular deep cleansing of the face is vital because of the layers of grime that accumulate so easily. While ordinary soap is excellent for removing the grease and dirt from the skin's surface it is usually not as effective at removing make-up and unfortunately tends to make dry skin even drier and vise versa for oily skin.

Fortunately there are now many pH-balanced soaps that don't disturb the pH of the skin, so that you can find one to suit you without many of the disadvantages of the conventional soap.

Alternatively, there are many cream and lotion cleansers, oils, and cleansing milks available now which are also good. To use one, apply some lotion or cream cleanser on with your hands as you would soap and then swab it off with a pad of damp cotton, repeat the application until the cotton comes away clean. Then follow with a tonic or freshener, preferably one without alcohol in it, or simply rinse your face in cool water.

Occasionally give yourself a gentle massage with pure vegetable oil, to stimulate circulation. The oil tends to leach up the dirt or make-up on your skin which can then be easily and efficiently removed using pads of damp cotton. You can the wash your skin using pH-balanced soap or cleanser (with warm water), and then splash with plenty of cool water to close the pores. It is very important that you cleanse your skin twice daily for that lovely healthy glow, especially if you live in an area where air pollution is a particular problem.

Moisturizing Care

The best way to moisturize very dry skin is simply to prevent water loss from the skin. Using a water-in-oil emulsion is most effective as it covers the skin with an impermeable film so that excessive water loss doesn't occur. And it works well with both dry and oily skin. Apply the moisturizer most suited to you twice a day, every day. It can even be worn under make-up when required.

Sun Screen

Your skin needs to be protected from the sun all the time, for ultraviolet light is the worst destroyer and agar of the skin. Heavy exposure to the sun's light at the age of eighteen invariably results in premature wrinkles, in the following years. Choosing a sunscreen product depends on how much sunlight you are exposed to. Many make-up products now include a sunscreen in their formulation. Water- resistant sun lotions (water-in-oil emulsions) make excellent moisturizers-cum-sunscreens for everyday wear too. Make sure you choose a sun-screen which offers a UVB screen against burning and also UVA protection against aging.

The rewards will come when years from now you see the youthfulness of your skin as compared to those of the same age who haven't used a sunscreen.

Final Product

In today's world of break-neck speed, beauty is more and more difficult to maintain. But unfortunately there is no way to hide neglect. A strong, firm, body, and skin that radiates health. It takes effort to bring forth what you so desire . . . beauty that at the very least, is skin deep.
